Below are some questions about Charlotte’s novel Jane Eyre which you’re welcome to use in your own clubs.
- Looking at the many different cover designs (see above), what would you expect the book to be about? Pick one in particular to focus on.
- What do you think Charlotte would have thought of some of these covers?
- What genre do you consider the book to be? Bildungsroman, romance, Gothic, or something else?
- Which characters did you like best in the book?
- Which characters did you like least?
- Do you think the locations function almost like are characters?
- If you could hear this same story from another character’s point of view, who would you choose and why?
- Which character did you relate to, or empathize with, the most?
- Share your favourite quote from the book. Why did this quote stand out?
- What do you think happens to the characters after the book’s official ending?
- How many stars would you give the novel out of five?
